On the occasion of September 8 – Independence Day, Minister Ivan Stoilkovic extended sincere congratulations to all Macedonian citizens, both personally and on behalf of the Ministry of Local Self-Government. This year, we mark 35 years of independence with special pride—three and a half decades filled with challenges, achievements, and experiences that have shaped our country's path. On September 8, 1991, the citizens expressed their historic will for an independent and sovereign state. It was an act of political maturity and determination that laid the foundations of modern Macedonian statehood.
Today, 35 years later, it is our responsibility to preserve and build upon what the generations before us created. We must build a state with strong institutions, developed local communities, equal opportunities, and balanced development—a state that fosters conditions for a dignified life and a secure future for all its citizens. As the Ministry of Local Self-Government, we believe that the country's development begins and is realized in every municipality, every settlement, and every local community. Only through shared commitment, responsibility, and cooperation can we create a stronger and more prosperous Macedonia. May this significant anniversary be an occasion to look back with pride at the path we have traveled, and to look toward the future with determination, Let us continue to build the state with respect for its history, responsibility toward the present, and a vision for the generations to come.
