The Minister of Local Self-Government Ivan Stoilkovic held a working meeting today with the Deputy Minister of Economy and Labor Marjan Risteski. At the meeting, opinions and ideas were exchanged on several important topics related to the situation of municipalities, local economic development, support for domestic companies and the importance of infrastructure investments in the general economic development of the Republic of Macedonia.
The topic of discussion was the latest measure announced by the Employment Agency, which is part of the Operational Plan for Active Programs and Measures for Employment and Services on the Labor Market for 2026 (the public call is ongoing and lasts until 21.8.2026), and that is the measure "Economy of Care - Municipal-Useful Work" which is intended for municipalities. It enables municipalities to hire unemployed persons from the records of the Employment Agency of the Republic of Macedonia with an acquired certificate for a service provider for a period of 9 (nine) months for an engagement of 40 hours per week.
The individuals would be engaged in the areas of social or health services in accordance with the needs at the local level, as well as for priority target groups of end users. For their engagement, the individuals would receive a monthly allowance of 24,000 denars, including personal income tax and insurance for disability and bodily injury caused by work-related injuries and occupational diseases.
At the meeting, the interlocutors agreed that a priority goal for the Government of the Republic of Macedonia is to have economically stable, strong, and digitalized municipalities that offer quality services to citizens and companies in the country.
