The ninth meeting of the Sectoral Working Group for Regional and Local Development was held at the Government premises. The meeting, chaired by Deputy Minister Erzan Selimi, presented the current initiatives that the Ministry of Local Self-Government is implementing and coordinating with the support of the Government. These initiatives aim to strengthen local self-government and ensure balanced and sustainable development across all regions.
The Ministry presented the activities implemented under the Sub-program AA – Infrastructure Projects in Municipalities, the Program for Sustainable Local Development and Decentralization, the Program for Balanced Regional Development, and the Program for Reducing Disparities.
Interest was shown in the presentation on the establishment of a Resource Center for Supporting Municipalities — an important tool designed to provide substantial support for strengthening local capacities, promoting more efficient local development, and improving cooperation between local and central government. This initiative also reflects one of the key recommendations of the European Union, highlighted in several annual reports on the country’s progress in the European integration process.
Representatives of the Delegation of the European Union emphasized the importance of continuing this initiative and of reinforcing the focus on promoting regional and local development, as a key component for achieving progress in the Republic of Macedonia’s EU integration process.
