With the invitation of the Swedish Association of local and regional authorities, Ministers of Local Self-Government, Risto Penov, held meetings in Stockholm to discuss the future cooperation in several areas. Through the Swedish development agency SIDA, Sweden supports local self-government in North Macedonia since the beginning of the decentralization process.

Current is cooperation for the strength and capacity of municipalities for the preparation of technical documentation for larger infrastructure projects, and through the project for the management of solid waste, supported by the Swedish Association and the Local and Regional Authorities, Salar International.

In the meeting with the representatives of the Swedish Association of Local Authorities and Regions and with the political representatives of the Stockholm region, they shared experiences on the operation of local self-government and expressed their interest in continuing cooperation, especially in the implementation of the highest standards in the provision of municipal services.
